gather round good food

Growing up as the middle child in a family of 5 boys, Chef Peter Pham didn't quite fit in with his older or younger brothers. As a result, he spent a lot of time in the kitchen with his mom, who used to run a restaurant in Montreal. That's where his fascination with food began, although he wouldn't pursue it professionally until years later.

He spent several years in Hong Kong, where he had the honour of working with a well-known chef hosting private dinner experiences. Hong Kong is an exceptional culinary destination that exposed him to a lot of different cuisines and styles, and amplified his growth as a chef.

When he returned to Toronto, he dove back into the industry here. But life hit Peter with some really difficult personal stuff that forced him to take some time away. He realized he was burnt out from the grind and didn't feel purpose in his work anymore. It felt awful losing his connection with food; he felt like he wasn't cooking for his own enjoyment anymore, and so he took a step back to find a way to rediscover his values.

For the first time in years, he cooked for pleasure again. He made the things he loved eating as a kid. He reconnected with myself, and perfected a number of pastry recipes on the way.

Fast forward to the first big lockdown of the pandemic: he got laid off temporarily from his job, which freed up his time to practice my craft. During his time off, one of his friends reached out from PEI -- she had a craving for patties but claimed that there weren’t any good spots there, and asked if Peter could teach her to make some over Zoom. Patties were one of his favourite after-school snacks in high school, so he was definitely up for the challenge. Together, they perfected his recipe and, after he posted a story on his Instagram, he received some DMs asking if he was selling them. He got some samples out to his friends, and then through the wonders of social sharing and as the saying goes…the rest is history.

Phamilyeats exists to bring people together over delicious eats. We’re so grateful for the support we’ve received so far, and we can’t wait to bring more delicious eats to the city of Toronto.
